A little about Pigeon Forge

Pigeon Forge, in East Tennessee, is surrounded by the Great Smoky Mountains and beautiful scenery for every season. Our town is made up of a delightful mix of life-long residents, young families attracted by nature's beauty, and folks who have chosen to spend their retirement years in Pigeon Forge. Early history of our town dates back to before the Revolutionary War. Our first business was established in the early 1800s. While Pigeon Forge once was a small farming community, the lure of the mountains brought more and more visitors to the area, and new businesses were established to meet the needs of these travelers. You'll find Pigeon Forge is an all-American town with a wholesome atmosphere, brimming with family values and old-fashioned Southern hospitality

The history of Pigeon Forge

The name "Pigeon Forge" comes from an iron forge built by Isaac Love (1783–1854) sometime around 1820. The name of this forge referred to its location along the Little Pigeon River, in the vicinity of what is now the Old Mill. The name of the river comes from the flocks of passenger pigeons that frequented its banks at the time of the first Euro-American settlers' arrival. In the 1870s, a health resort was established in Pigeon Forge at Henderson Springs, adjacent to the Wear's Fort site on the town's north side. It was common during this period for the residents of large urban areas to visit mountain springs, the waters of which were thought to have health-restoring qualities.
